Predict the future, grasp the fate

Predict the future, grasp the fate

In history books throughout the ages, there are records of dreams predicting good or bad luck. For example, the Book of Jin records:

Cao Cao once dreamed that three horses were feeding in the same trough. Cao Cao thought this foretold that Sima Yi, Sima Shi, and Sima Zhao (three horses) would take over the kingdom of Cao, so he warned Cao PI to be careful, but Cao PI did not listen.

History is full of examples. According to Zuo Zhuan:

After the death of King Jinggong of Song, the two sons of Deh and Qi fought for the throne. I dreamed that Qi was lying outside the door with his head facing north, and that I was a crow on Qi's body, with my mouth on the south door and my tail on the tung door. So we have to think that his dream is good, symbolizing that he will succeed in succession to the throne. Then he was actually made king of the Song Dynasty.

Why do you think this dream is good? Because, there is an ancient Chinese dream interpretation theory that says: 'Lying with the head to the north represents death; Outside the door, represents the loss of the country.' So it will fail. In the face of the south, 'the south is king', and controls the various gates, naturally will succeed.

Because of the belief in the prophetic role of dreams, ancient Chinese people would decide their actions based on dreams.

Li Yuan, the first emperor of the Tang Dynasty, had a dream when he was about to rebel against the Sui Dynasty, dreaming that he fell under the bed and was eaten by maggots. He thought this was a sign that he would die, so he did not dare to fight. One of his men explained, 'To fall under the bed means' Your Majesty '; To be eaten by maggots means that people will be attached to you. This dream means you want to be emperor.' Li Yuan heard these words, relieved to start the army, and then he overthrew the Sui Dynasty and became emperor himself.

Li Yuan's dream looked like a bad omen on the surface, but it was actually a good omen. This dream is the most obvious illustration of the uncertainty of dream omens. In Western culture, we have the same idea. For example, in the Old Testament, the pharaoh of Egypt dreamed of seven healthy cows, and then seven lean cows appeared and ate the healthy cows. Joseph told Pharaoh that this heralded seven years of abundance, followed by seven years of famine, which would consume all the surplus of the previous seven years. The premonition view is based on the primitive people's universal 'induction' view, that the heaven and earth nature and people can be induced to each other, that is, many anthropologists put forward the 'primitive interinfiltration law'. This old idea still exists today. Many people tend to think that dream interpretation is a kind of superstition, but in the heart, there is a sense in this argument. The future of life is unpredictable. No matter what kind of person, there is no insight into what will happen in the future. When we try to figure this out and can't find the answer, some people use dreams to predict good or bad luck. Interpreting dreams is a way for human beings to predict the future and grasp fate.
